Frick'n Good Cookies Credits SCORE Mentor for Helping Her Convert Her Passion Into a Paycheck

A client of SCORE of Southeast Michigan, along with her Certified Volunteer Mentor (David Broner), was recently featured on Channel 7 Action News' "Rebound Detroit" series, profiling Mikayla Frick's inspiring story of perseverence during times of challenge amidst the pandemic.

Struggling to get a full-time position, Mikayla chose instead to take the entrepreneurial leap and bet on herself. Months later, her culinary creation Frick'n Good Cookies now has seven contracted employees and sells cookies at 12 different farmers markets across metro Detroit.

“Had I been hired, this would have never happened,” said Frick. “So, it’s kind of was a blessing in disguise.”

The Mentor Angle

Broner added his perspective as a SCORE volunteer:

“The interest [in mentorship] is probably up 1/3 over 2020. Our biggest challenge is having enough mentors to serve this incoming group of entrepreneurs."
